Hertha earned a heroic point against run-away league leaders FC Bayern on Saturday, 24th February, thanks to a tactical masterclass and superb performance. Even the hosts paid tribute to our boys’ defensive efforts: “Hertha defended well, compliments to them,” said Arjen Robben at full time. herthabsc.de rounds up all the reaction from Marvin Plattenhardt, Davie Selke, Jordan Torunarigha, Rune Jarstein und Fabian Lustenberger.
Fabian Lustenberger: "I have pain in my nose, I think it’s broken. Otherwise, I think we played superbly, gave everything for 90 minutes and defended well. We had one or two chances going forward, and might have had more if we’d been a bit bolder. After ten years at Hertha, that’s my first point in Munich, so I can feel very good travelling back to Berlin! (laughs)
Rune Jarstein: "Much of the game took place in our own box. I’m very proud of the team, 0-0 is a fantastic result for us. The point is a bonus, so we’re very happy.”
Marvin Plattenhardt: "We stuck together well as a team and did our jobs efficiently. The point will do us a lot of good; we’re delighted that we can take an away point home from here. This was a very good reaction to the result against Mainz. We’ve shown already this season that we can defend, but it’s impossible to prevent every single Bayern chance. We have a few games coming up that we can and must get points from."
Davie Selke: "We went into the game with a good strategy from the coach – it worked fantastically. Everyone did the job assigned to them very well. To get a point away at Bayern in is brilliant."
Jordan Torunarigha: "Bayern are one of the best teams in the world, which makes it even better that we take a point home with us. It’s quite special when players like Robben and Ribery are running at you, but even they are only human. We simply stuck to our game plan. You have to pay a huge compliment to the team. Everyone defended well, we’re defending better and trying to concede as few goals as possible against every opponent. We did that well today, so for that reason we can be proud that we go home with a point."
Arjen Robben (Bayern München): "You have days when the ball just won’t go in – today was one of those days. That doesn’t happen very often, especially at the Allianz Arena. Hertha defended well, compliments to them."
