Erfurt – The Thüringer Medien-Cup’s opener between Hertha BSC and Rot-Weiß Erfurt ended in a convincing 3-0 win for the former. Vedad Ibisevic, Salomon Kalou, and Valentin Stocker scored the evening’s goals.
Manager Pal Dardai fielded a strong side against Rot-Weiß Erfurt in what was Hertha’s first friendly following their intensive training camp in Bad Saarow, where they have spent the last week. New signings Karim Rekik and Mathew Leckie also donned the Hertha kit for the first time in an official game.
The Blue-Whites were clearly the better side from the start, having a multitude of chances before Maximilian Mittelstädt crossed in from the left and Ibisevic put the ball in the back of the net. Kalou then doubled Hertha’s lead with a beauty of a strike, with Dardai Jr. getting the assist (39’).
Stocker makes it three
Pal Dardai switched up the team completely for the second half. Valentin Stocker had an easy tap in put on a plate for him after Leckie’s cut back, making it 3-0 to Hertha. Although Hertha pushed on in search of a fourth, it was Stocker’s goal that was the last one to be scored in the match, resulting in a deserved 3-0 win in favour of Hertha.
