Berlin – The season finale in Berlin certainly did not go to plan on Saturday, as Hertha crashed to a 6-2 defeat at home to RB Leipzig in the Olympiastadion. Marvin Plattenhardt, Julian Schieber and Salomon Kalou give their thoughts following the final day defeat.
"We planned a different end to the season."
Hertha players react after the final day 6-2 defeat at home to Leipzig in Berlin
Salomon Kalou: There’s no reason to concede six at home. That just should not happen. We played well at home last season and poor away. This season was the complete opposite. We need to find a way in the future to have a better balance between the two. But we need to take the positives from this year. The new boys Karim, Mathew, Valentino and Davie have settled into the team well, and we can build on that. Julian deserved to have his moment in front of the fans. He has given so much for Hertha over the years.
Marvin Plattenhardt: We planned a slightly different end to the season for sure. The aim was to take something home from the game with us and give the fans something to celebrate, so the defeat hurts. We conceded too many goals and that should not happen at this level. The fans got behind us until the end and that will give us a lift going into next season too. Most of all I am pleased for Julian, because he was brought on in his final home game for Hertha. That was a lovely gesture from the boss.
Julian Schieber: I knew I would get a few minutes and I got the boys up for it at the start. I hoped it would be closer so that I could perhaps have made a difference, but the game panned out very differently. It ended as a deserved victory for Leipzig with no highlight for me. I was here for four years. There were lovely moments, but tough ones as well. These boys are great and I always knew that I could count on them and the club, so I leave with a slightly heavy heart. It’s the best goodbye I have had in my career. I was taken aback at the reception I got from the Ostkurve. I wish the club nothing but the best in the future.
