Leverkusen– There was much to discuss and talk about following matchday 22’s win over Leverkusen. Here’s what goalscorers Valentino Lazaro and Salomon Kalou had to say, as well as the thoughts of the returning Rune Jarstein and Fabian Lustenberger.
That was an eventful and touch game. Leverkusen played well, but we took our chances well and are delighted with three points. I am obviously delighted because it was first goal for Hertha too. On top of that it was my mum’s birthday, and that is a lovely present for her. I want to keep being involved with the goals we score in the future. I didn’t see what happenend before Leverkusen were awarded the free kick. But we stuck together as a team at that moment and gave it everything. It’s also a great feeling to keep a clean sheet.
I had no idea I couldn’t pick the ball up that situation. I didn’t have it in my hands, I just touched it. I have always done it like that in my career. The referee has never blown up for it- Thankfully we didn’t conceded from it and nothing else bad came of it. It was a great feeling to be back out there, I was looking forward to it all week. We will enjoy this one for a bit and then start focusing on Mainz. That will be a big game.
Because we were pressing so high it was easier for us to make the most of our chances. But it was still a very tough win because Leverkusen are a good team. This should give us confidence for the coming weeks, and anything is possible for us in the table now (with the exception of catching Bayern!) I am so pleased to have scored again, particularly when it helps the team. It’s important that the team is successful. Scoring the clincher as well is also a great feeling. We did everything right today and deserved to win.
We definitely did not come here as favourites – but if you can win in Leipzig you can win anywhere. It was certainly frantic after the indirect free kick. I blocked the first shot but it could have gone anywhere after it hit the bar, but thankfully Rune was hand to sweep up. I have no idea if it was a free kick or not, but we would have reacted more if the ball had gone in. That’s really how we managed to win two nil in Leverkusen. We deserved the victory of 90 minutes and go home with a fantastic feeling. A bit congrats to the team for that. The Mainz game will be a different game, because they won’t play pretty football, but we will have to learn to deal with this.
