“Mr. Reliable” extends contract

Peter Pekarik signs contract extension at Hertha BSC.

Berlin – He’s one of the long-serving members of the Hertha BSC squad and has been donning the Blue-White shirt since 2012. It’s a sight we’ll be seeing for a while longer yet. The Slovakian has prematurely extended his contract to stay in Germany’s capital and is excited to continuing wearing the Hertha shirt. “Peter is an unbelievably important player for Hertha BSC. He’s become ‘Mr. Reliable’ because of his consistent performances,” said a pleased Michael Preetz about the contract extension. “His experience makes his a role model for the younger players. We’re delighted that he’ll continue to remain at the club in the future.”

‘Peka’, who joined the club in 2012 from VfL Wolfsburg, is equally excited for his future in Berlin: “I’ve taken the club to heart and is basically a part of my family. In the past few years, the club has developed and that makes it all the more special for me to have been a part of the process throughout that time. I’m looking forward to facing challenges with the team and will continue to give my all. We’re all on a journey and together we want to succeed,” said the 31-year-old.

Until now, the Slovakia international has featured on 146 occasions for the Blue-Whites, scoring two goals and accumulating 10 assists. In his five and a half years at the club, he’s already been through a lot. In 2013, he celebrated winning the Bundesliga 2 and now he’s played in the Europa League for the Blue-Whites. ‘Peka’ is a key player in Pál Dardai’s side as shown by the fact he’s led the side out many times as captain.
