Gelsenkirchen– The Hertha boys were understandably frustrated to come away from the game against Schalke with nothing. Here’s what Niklas Stark, Karim Rekik, Fabian Lustenberger and Davie Selke had to say.
Karim Rekik: The chance to take a point was definitely there. They are a very strong team, ut you saw today what kind of quality we can offer. We had our chances, I myself had a good chance from a header. They didn’t have many chances, but they made the most of them. That was the difference today.
Niklas Stark: We made a mistake for their goal, and that was annoying. It was tough to defend against that cross and Pjaca made us pay. They are situations that we should not let happen. I am also angry that I wasn’t able to bury my chance in the first half. We had some good opportunities, particularly from set pieces, but we just didn’t have that little bit of luck to take one of them today. We haven’t scored enough goals since the turn of the year and we need to work on that in the coming weeks.
Fabian Lustenberger: We would have very happily taken a point, we were just lacking that cutting edge today. It’s not every away game we create so many chances so that makes it even more frustrating that we didn’t find the back of the net today. We put in a lot of effort today, and we have come away with nil next to our name, even if we again showed what we can do and what we’re capable of against a very good team like Schalke. As a result we can take a lot of positives from this game into the next few weeks. Our aim is to get back to winning ways as soon as possible and start picking up three points.
Davie Selke: We played well today. The first half was a physical battle, and although they started better we responded well and created lots of chances. Their goal came from a mistake and we did not defend the situation well enough – it was our only real defensive error all match- We dominated the second period, and we spent most of the time after the break in their half. It’s a shame we could not turn that into a point.
