About Hertha

Hertha BSC is more than 125 years old! Since marking that milestone, our motto has been “The future belongs to Berlin”—a statement that every Berliner would stand behind. Berlin is a one-of-a-kind city that continues to grow. A boom in tourism, an ever-growing population, and a reputation as a Mecca for start-ups all serve as proof that the city is riding a wave of success ahead of a golden future. The same is true for Hertha BSC, which is why we are shifting our focus to what’s still to come in order to celebrate the most successful chapter in our history: the future.
A hopefully successful future, based on a long history of tradition—following its founding on 25th July 1892, the fledgling club took its name from the blue-and-white steamship ‘Hertha.’ Since then the club, much like the city itself, has undergone many changes. A name change in 1923 saw BFC Hertha 92 merge with the Berliner Sport-Club to create Hertha BSC. The years that followed saw the club nearly take home the league title six times, before winning it back-to-back years in both 1930 and 1931.
From time in the Regionalliga (1965-68), to finishing runners-up in the top flight (1974-75) and taking part in the Champions League (1999-2000), Hertha BSC has experienced many highs and lows since the establishment of the Bundesliga in 1963. Today, Hertha BSC is a capital city club that unites fans from both the East and West.
