Things aren’t going as planned for Hertha right now, but it’s important to keep a certain amount of relaxation in everyday life at the club. The players did a lot of work with the ball in their training session on Tuesday, and fun was at the joy of playing was at the centre of things. “You have to have fun, guys!” said assistant coach Rainer Widmayer. The Hertha players were focussed in the sunshine in Berlin this afternoon, but they also enjoyed training. They will be hoping that this leads to three points in Hoffenheim this weekend. “Obviously we want to win and get three points there – like always! But I can’t say anything about our potential starting XI or tactics,” said Pál Dárdai.
Grujić and Kraft end training early
Derrick Luckassen, Jordan Torunarigha, Fabian Lustenberger, Arne Maier and Vladimír Darida all missed training due to injury. Rune Jarstein and Peter Pekarík did some extra work with coach Henrik Kuchno after the session, whereas Thomas Kraft and Marko Grujić had to end training early. “The pitch is very hard. Marko got stuck in the grass and fell, but we don’t have an exact diagnosis yet,” said Pál Dárdai. Kraft, on the other hand, left training early as a precaution. Either way, Hertha are without a lot of players at the moment. “Ondrej Duda will definitely be out suspended. If Marko isn’t fit, we’ll have to play Maximilian Mittelstädt or Valentino Lazaro in defensive midfield. That’s how many players we have out. But we’ll get a team together!” added the head coach.
Hertha have a double training session on Wednesday, training at 10:00 CEST and 15:00 CEST. The players then have their last open training session of the week on Thursday at 10:00 CEST. “We don’t know who will play yet, but it’ll depend a lot of who we have. We have to work hard and then make our performance in training count!” added Dárdai. Hertha kick off at 13:30 against Hoffenheim on Sunday.
