After a big defeat there is always an increased demand for reaction and quotes. Following the defeat in Augsburg, the Herthaner spoke to journalists in the mixed zone. "We prepared a lot and worked hard for two weeks on this game, but we didn’t show that on the pitch," said Marius Wolf. "We lacked the consistency that we’ve shown so far this season. We have to play much braver football now and turn the corner as quickly as possible!" We collected all the quotes after the game.
Niklas Stark: You can train like a world champion. If you play like that, you’re not going to get anything. We did a lot of preparation coming in to this game so to lose 4-0 is a real slap in the face. The disappointment is understandably big, we have to digest that now. So many little things didn’t go our way in this game: there was always someone in the way, we struggled to get through and we gave the ball away far too much.. You cannot pay like that away from home in the Bundesliga. We threw everything at them but we didn’t have enough for firepower and we deserved to lose in the end. We have to try and re-find our form now and work on our timing, as well as our cohesion. Going 2-0 down is never helpful, but we weren’t good even before the red card. Now we have to try to get something against Dortmund and there’s no reason why we can’t. We picked up points against some big teams last season.
Per Skjelbred: Before the game we wanted to try a few different things, but then came the first goal, then the second, then the red card. Then it's hard. We wanted to get back in to the game but sometimes it’s the little things that decide games. After the red card we had to change everything that had been planning before the game. We just have to get out of the hole we're in right now. Of course we are now in a relegation battle, but unfortunately this is the reality for us at the moment.
Marius Wolf: We prepared a lot and worked hard for two weeks on this game, but we didn’t show that on the pitch. After conceding the two goals and then getting the red card it was difficult, the result is still very annoying. We missed the last consequence, the last bite that we have already shown this season. We lacked the consistency that we’ve shown so far this season. We have to play much braver football now and turn the corner as quickly as possible – this is not the fault of the coach, the blame lies with us – we have to play better!
Davie Selke: The result feels exactly what it sounds like. I really don’t know what happened. We trained well for two weeks and knew what to expect coming here. We were prepared, but we didn’t show it. The goals don’t necessarily reflect badly on the defence since one was a fluke free kick and another was an individual mistake. We tried everything even with 10 men but it just didn’t work. Dortmund will be an extremely tough game, we know that. We have to let this game sink in first, it was a setback for us. Then we have to gather ourselves and prepare for the next game.
