Berlin – The first big chance of the match fell to Hertha, as Vedad Ibišević capitalised on a poor defensive pass, but couldn’t beat away keeper Ortega Moreno after just four minutes. The side from the capital continued to dominate the game, although Bielefeld’s defence often managed to clear at the right moments. The away side threatened first after 18 minutes, as Klos and Seufert saw their chances denied by Pal Dárdai’s defenders. Rune Jarstein made his first save five minutes later, expertly denying Fabian Klos’ header. After 25 minutes, it looked as if the Hertha fans could finally celebrate the opening goal as Vladimir Darida headed a dangerous Palko Dárdai cross towards goal. Bielefeld’s keeper was able to turn the ball onto the post, thus keeping the scores level. Hertha finally took the lead after 36 minutes: Dárdai played a through ball to Ondrej Duda, who put it on a plate for captain Ibišević to open the scoring. Armina tried to strike back quickly, but Hertha took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Strong finish: Köpke, Kiprit and Selke secure the win
Hertha remained the dominant side in the second half and Ondrej Duda had the first opportunity, with his shot going just over the crossbar in the 51st minute. Substitute keeper Thomas Kraft made several saves to deny Arminia, before Duda brought down Weihrauch in the penalty box after 67 minutes, which was subsequently scored by Nöthe. Pál Dárdai then made ten changes, although Karim Rekik and Valentino Lazaro didn’t get the chance to come on. The subs gave the side a new impetus and Pascal Köpke then restored the lead in the 78th minute. Four minutes later Muhammed Kiprit scored an eye-catching free kick, before Selke headed home the fourth with five minutes to go.
