“A very disappointing result for us”

After the home defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf, Valentino Lazaro, Marko Grujić, Karim Rekik and Salmon Kalou all gave their views on the game.

The day was set to be a nice afternoon for the Blue-Whites in Berlin. However, after 90 minutes, Hertha had suffered a 2-1 defeat to ice-cold Fortuna Düsseldorf. Some of the players spoke to the media after the game. “At times we simply didn't concentrate as hard as we should've done despite all our effort,” said goalscorer Marko Grujić.

Valentino Lazaro: There were phases where we played good football and had many chances to score, especially in the second half down the flanks and we should have scored three goals. We were unable to score as we were not consistent enough. Their winner was a simple pass from the flank, which no one reacted to. No one reacted to the rebound either. There was no will power and I don’t know why. Anyone can make a mistake but the conviction and fight has to be there until the last minute. That was not the case today. We had a good game plan from the coach which we did well sometimes but not often enough.

Marko Grujić: Defensively, we didn't perform at our best, like in the tackle. However, Düsseldorf were able to exploit this and punish us for our mistakes. At times we simply didn't concentrate as hard as we should've done despite all our effort. We are very disappointed with the result as it was a match that we simply had to win. We will continue to work hard on this and find a solution based on this performance. I can understand why the fans are disappointed.

Salomon Kalou: We had problems with our self-confidence. When you concede two goals, it is difficult to score three, yourself. That is the way the Bundesliga is. We play against teams who can perform at a high level. We shouldn't have conceded the goals as easily as we did. We have to defend better and most importantly together. Then, we will have the chance to win matches. We will have to analyse what we have done wrong and make sure we improve.

Karim Rekik: When a football match doesn't go to plan, you also don't benefit from luck. We had our chances to score but couldn't take them. Düsseldorf didn't create many chances to score but were able to take them. Of course this isn't just about luck so we need to work hard to return to winning ways. I understand why the fans are not satisfied and I'm not satisfied too. It would be dangerous to say there is nothing else to play for this season. We have six games remaining and can still secure 18 more points.
