A win, a clean sheet and three great goals – Hertha could hardly have dreamed for a better start to the calendar year. The 3-0 home win against Schalke 04 on Saturday evening (02/01/20) gives Bruno Labbadia’s men confidence and momentum heading into a packed January schedule. “It’s a good start to the new year,” said Vladimír Darida, who notched two assists while covering every blade of grass at the Olympiastadion. “I hope that we can live up to that in the weeks to come!” herthabsc.de collects the best of the match reaction.
Alexander Schwolow: We needed a little time to grow into the game, but we were able to improve a lot – especially in the second half. I’m happy that I was able to help the team with my save against Uth in the first half. All in all this was an important first step, but we still have five games to come in January. We always stayed positive and now we can take heart into our upcoming fixtures. We want to stay on this track!
Vladimír Darida: It’s always hard to find space against opposition who sit so deep. In the opening minutes we were lacking a little something, but we kept the ball well and managed to create more space as time went on. Maybe the Freiburg match was still in our heads a little, but in the end it was 3-0 and a good start to the new year. I hope that we can live up to that in the weeks to come. The pass from Matheus before the seond goal was a little longer than I had expected, but it all worked out in the end! (grins)
