“We sensed the power”

Davie Selke, Marvin Plattenhardt, Mathew Leckie and Valentino Lazaro spoke to the media after the 3-3 draw with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

The 3-3 draw between Hertha BSC and TSG Hoffenheim was a spectacular game, which the Berliners saw themselves claw back a draw after going 2-0 down early on. A rocket of a shot from Valentino Lazaro ensured that at least one point remained in the capital.

Davie Selke: Lazaro’s goal was superb and extremely important. For his goal I gave him a kiss! I don’t know if he has a thing for wonder goals, but it was very good and very important. It was a good feeling at the end not to lose, but also a shame that the game ended because I think we could have won it. In the end, Hoffenheim were all over the place. However, during the game they were very good on the counter. But we have shown a good response to going 2-0 down. After being 3-1 down, it was tough but it is amazing that we came back. When I came on, I immediately realised that the boys all wanted to score and to get something from the game. It was an outstanding game – especially for the spectators.

Marvin Plattenhardt: In the end, we are satisfied with a point but we should have done more with our chances. In training, it is always good but we could have done more today. We definitely wanted the three points. We did not start well and of course, if you are 1-0 down within a minute, it is hard to accept. However, the team showed good morale and fought until the end and so we were rewarded with a point. We believed in each other and fought for each other. We want to see this continue for the next few weeks. After coming back from two goals down, one point is a positive result.

Mathew Leckie: We started the game badly but we fought back bit by bit. It was an odd game because both teams had lots of opportunities. Nevertheless, it is a positive that we were able to come back from 2-0 down and it shows that our morale is good. I think that although I travelled a lot with Australia and played games for them, I still played well today and I was very happy to score. The start of the season has not been easy for me because of my injury. I have had to be patient, especially as the players in my position have been playing well. I hope I can build on this performance and play as often as possible so I can help the team with more goals and assists.

Valentino Lazaro: I will certainly remember my goal (laughs). It’s funny that I scored a late goal for Austria and now for Hertha today. However, it would have been even better if it was the winning goal. I am not completely satisfied with the game. We played very good football and we made many chances and should have scored more. It would have been very unfair if we had lost this game. The team deserves incredible praise having come back from 2-0 and the recent weeks. I am very proud of the team.
