Hertha BSC suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday at the Olympiastadion. After the disappointed loss, Valentino Lazaro, Salmon Kalou and Karim Rekik all spoke to the media.
Salomon Kalou: We played well at the start. We had a lot of the ball but were unable to penetrate. We tried to find good combinations and solutions to get through. We played very well towards the end of the game as well and had good chances to score. Unfortunately, we were unable to. Wolfsburg were better than us overall, and we have to admit it. Now, we have to try and improve in the next game.
Valentino Lazaro: The defeat is very frustrating because we weren’t fully in the game. The opponents pressed up back three with three forwards well. We then tried to play long balls over the top, but we were unable to win the first or second balls. They kept coming towards us in the first half and so it was difficult. In the second half it was similar, but we had chances. They however, also scored. We were punished for not taking our chances, but that is the Bundesliga. It is very, very frustrating.
Karim Rekik: We didn’t start the game well. We had a lot of the possession but we were unable to do much with it, and didn’t win many second balls. We changed tactically and improved. The chances were there. Wolfsburg’s goal was poor to concede. We have to be tighter to our men. In my opinion, Wolfsburg weren’t better than us, but we have to analyse the game, work out solutions and then prepare for the Bayern game.
