Augsburg/Berlin - It was a key moment in Sunday’s game against FC Augsburg: After a foul on Jhon Córdoba, referee Frank Willenborg pointed to the spot. Matheus Cunha stepped up to score the opener in the 44th minute. But, Córdoba was unable to fully join in on the celebrations as he was forced to leave the pitch in pain. After the game, the 27-year-old left the stadium on crutches. On Sunday morning, after an examination in Berlin, the news followed that he had picked up a ligament injury in his left ankle. He will be wearing a protective boot and sidelined for the foreseeable future.
It’s a tough pill to swallow for the Colombian, who joined Hertha in the summer from Köln, as he’d just started to find himself in a good run of form for his new club. In his seven league games this season so far, Córdoba has scored three and assisted one.
