Berlin – Hertha BSC continue to count on their youth players: On Thursday (24/01/19), Palko Dárdai signed a new contract at the club. “Palko was a member of our extremely talented U19s side that won the title last season and has proven his quality during his time at the club. At the moment he is adjusting to life as a professional footballer. We want to help his development,” said sporting director Michael Preetz. “Hertha BSC has been my club since I was a little boy. Everybody knows about my connection to the club, which makes it even more special to sign this new contract and have the opportunity to develop myself further here,” said the excited 19-year-old.
The youngster made his Bundesliga debut for the Old Lady at the end of last season at home against FC Augsburg, coming on as a late substitute. The winger had already played in the Europa League that season, appearing against Luhansk and Östersunds in November 2017. He has been part of the first-team squad this season and has made five Bundesliga appearances, as well as one in the DFB-Pokal.
Herthaner since 2011
Palko, the son of head coach Pál Dárdai, signed for the Hertha academy as a 12-year-old in 2011 and has since played for every academy side at the club. His talent was there to see from early on. He was consistently a top performer for the youth sides, scoring seven goals and registering 19 assists for the U17s. He won the U19s Bundesliga title last season, playing his part with eleven goals and 5 assists. The Germany youth international has also played 16 times for the U23s in the Regionalliga. So far, he has scored five goals and made one assist.
