Hertha BSC and head coach Pál Dárdai have mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the season. Following an in-depth analysis of the overall situation, a decision was reached that a change of head coach this summer was the right step forward for the club.
“Pál Dárdai has been a great servant to Hertha BSC over the past years, not only as our record appearance holder, but also as head coach,” said sporting director Michael Preetz. “Four-and-a-half years of positive and constructive work together is a long time in professional football. We have, however, come to the decision together that a fresh impetus this summer is the right move for Hertha BSC. Pál is an important part of the positive development of the club and will continue to be a key member of the Hertha family beyond his spell as head coach.”
Pál Dárdai: “My years in charge of Hertha BSC have been very intense and eventful. I’m thankful for this chance and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved during this time. Sometimes a change is the needed. I’ve always said that I want the best for Hertha BSC, as Hertha is and always will be my home.”
Dárdai and his coaching team will lead Hertha for the final five Bundesliga games of the season. Despite this decision, he will return in the summer of 2020 as a youth team coach.
