As Hertha BSC began preparation for their game against Mainz 05 on Saturday, the atmosphere at the Schenckendorffplatz was very good – understandable as they had just beaten FC Bayern München 2-0. There was also the added aspect of Vladimir Darida’s return. “It is great news. Vladi is an important player for us,” said a happy Pál Dárdai.
The Hungarian will however give Darida the necessary time to rebuild his match fitness in order for the player to regain his good form. “Firstly he can participate in the U23’s game on Wednesday. We don’t want to rush his return. Vladi should first spend some time training with the first team and feel comfortable,” said Pál Dárdai. The 28-year-old is yet to play a minute of football this season and missed pre-season.
Jarstein and Friede return
The Czech midfielder Sidney Friede has also rejoined first team training. Rune Jarstein, who picked up an injury against Bayern München and was replaced by Thomas Kraft, did not train with the first team and instead worked with the fitness coach Hendrik Vieth and goalkeeping coach Zsolt Petry. “Rune trained separately. We need to wait and see how his situation develops this week,” explained Dárdai.
Jarstein however is confident of a quick return. “I don’t have any problems now and everything feels good. I hope that I can return to first team training on Wednesday and that I can play on the weekend,” he said. Dárdai will have been happy to hear this as the Hungarian announced that this week would be a very rigorous training week. “The atmosphere since last Friday has been very good but we need to ensure that we work very hard this week,” said the head coach.
