Having only faced Köln on Sunday evening, Hertha are back in action as soon as this Friday (4th October) with Fortuna Düsseldorf the visitors at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Forced to remain indoors on Monday by storm ‘Mortimer’, Covic’s men took to training pitches of Schenckendorffplatz again on Tuesday to begin preparations for the task ahead. "We got the analysis out of the way already due to shortage of time this week," said Covic: "Our focus is now entirely on Friday night’s game – a very important game for us, because we want to make our home fans happy!"
Pekarik back in team training – Dilrosun, Wolf and Plattenhardt working individually
To mark the beginning of these preparations, Ante Covic welcomed back Peter Pekarik to full team training. Marius Wolf and Javairo Dilrosun trained individually on their full recovery in the gym, as did Marvin Plattenhardt, whose availability on Friday is in doubt due to ankle problems. "Whether Marvin can be an option against Düsseldorf we will see over the course of the week," said the lead recovery coach, not ruling out Platte’s involvement on Friday. Home grown talent Sidney Friede has been rested after he sustained a bruise to his foot with the U23s in their game against Babelsberg.
Training – 1st October
Competition within the squad remains at a high level, something Ante Covic sees as an important recipe for success: "We’ve started to develop a framework within the team, but it’s important that all the lads continue to fight for a place in the starting XI during training, just as they have been doing so far," he explained. The remaining training sessions this week will not be open to the public. On Friday, it’s showtime in the Bundesliga once again.
