Berlin – Arne Friedrich is Hertha’s new sporting director. The former German international and ex-club captain had rejoined the club as Performance Manager at the end of 2019, and has now agreed to take on a new role. “We are pleased that Arne will remain in our team. As sporting director, he will act as the link between the board, the coaching staff and the team. He collected plenty of experience as a successful player and in his further education after his career, which he will continue to share with us,” stated managing director for sport Michael Preetz on Sunday (28/6/20).
Friedrich, who made 288 appearances (16 goals, 25 assists) for the ‘Old Lady’ between 2002 and 2010, was also happy with his promotion: “I was able to help the club last season with my knowledge and know-how. I’ve really enjoyed my work so far and I think we can achieve a lot together. I’m really pleased with my new role,” added the 41-year-old.
