Hertha BSC used their Wednesday afternoon to get some match practise. The game against the third division side Eintracht Braunschweig ended in a 2-2 draw with both goals being scored by Palko Dárdai. In the morning, the regulars had already completed a training session and so were not involved in the game.
The game developed into a physically demanding but enjoyable game. The first chance of the practise match fell to the visitors but Thomas Kraft was able to parry the shot away. At the other end of the pitch, the lead was taken as Javairo Dilrosun set up Palko Dárdai, who scored after his low shot found the bottom corner of the goal (17’). Pascal Köpke, who was playing down the right hand side, created the next opportunity, but both Dilrosun and Vladimir Darida were unable to finish. However, the visitors scored an equaliser through Mike Feigenspan who scored from close range (31’). Just before the half-time whistle blew, Dárdai doubled his tally and once again put Hertha ahead after a smart cutback from Lukas Klünter (44’).
“A lot of positives”
After a short break, the game restarted. Dárdai had a shot parried by Marcel Engelhardt early on, and substitute Muhammed Kiprit was unable to convert the rebound. Darida also had two long-shots on goal but did not score. The away side got the equaliser in the 79th minute as Marcel Bär scored a header from a good cross. Dennis Smarsch, who had come on for Kraft at half-time made a superb save to deny Leandro Putaro’s long shot. The game ended in a draw. “For us, it was a good test. It isn’t always easy to give everyone enough playing time. Therefore, it was good that we were able to get some match practise in today. We saw many positives,” said head coach Pál Dárdai after the game. Hertha BSC’s next game is against VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday (02/02/19, 15:30 CET).
