After six winless games, Hertha BSC finally got their victory as they beat Hannover 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. After the game, Ibišević, Torunarigha, Lazaro and Selke all spoke to the media.
Vedad Ibišević: It is a great feeling, to have finally won a game again in the league. We have missed this feeling the past few weeks. In the end, it doesn’t matter how we win, as long as we win. We didn’t give up, despite missing chances. I believe we wanted to win more than Hannover did. Jordan is easily the man of the match. He is my favourite young player. He just has to remain down-to-earth as football can be a difficult job. As long as he keeps working hard, he will be a very good player in the future.
Jordan Torunarigha: That was of course a good day for me. The first corner went to the near post but no one was there, so I thought, next time I will make the run there. I am pleased we were able to show what we have been working on the training ground on the pitch. It’s nice to be able to give the coaching team something to celebrate and show that we trust them. It was a good response to the game in Düsseldorf. As a team we have had some bad luck recently, but today we had a very clear plan, which we implemented very well!
Valentino Lazaro: We want to get the three points every time we play. It was however, not an easy game. Every now and then we lost the ball in our half and so Hannover were able to attack, but on the whole it was a deserved victory. Similarly to the game against Hoffenheim, we had chances to score five or six goals. We can do better than today but we are happy with the three points. It was a good performance. I am happy for Jordan that he could play his part in the victory today. However, he messed up our celebration! Maybe he will score again and this time we can do it correctly (laughs).
Davie Selke: After such a long time without a win, it was very important to get the win today. We knew it would be difficult because Hannover wanted to win as well. But we had a good plan and implement it superbly, especially when we didn’t have the ball. It was a deserved victory and a good performance from us. Vedad and I linked up well together upfront.
