The Germany U21s claimed a big victory in England on Thursday evening (26/03/19). Stefan Kuntz and his team beat England 2-1 in a friendly in Bournemouth. Arne Maier assisted Dahoud’s opener, whilst Mittelstädt played an hour of the game before being replaced by Lukas Klünter. Jordan Torunarigha did not feature having picked up an injury in the game last week. After the Germans had taken the lead, Dominic Solanke equalized for England shortly before half-time. Wolfsburg’s Felix Uduokhai scored the winner in injury time. “In the first half, we played very well and there wasn’t much to complain about other than the fact that we conceded. You need a bit of luck and in the end we got that,” said head coach Stefan Kuntz. Dennis Jastrzembski was brought on in the 77th minute for the Germany U19s in their 3-0 victory over Hungary.
Jarstein saves penalty
Rune Jarstein and co. endured a crazy evening. The Norwegian goalkeeper and Norway drew 3-3 with Sweden. Goals from Alkmaars Björn Johnsen (41) and Bournemouth's Joshua King (59) put the Norwegians 2-0 up before Sweden bounced back in the latter stages. Although Jarstein saved an Andreas Granqvist penalty, he was unable to keep out of Krasnodars Viktor Claesson’s effort (70). An own goal from Havard Nordtveit followed by a goal from Mainz 05’s Robin Quaison put the Swedes 3-2 up in injury time. Nevertheless, Ola Kamara of LA Galaxy, scored an extremely late equalizer to make it 3-3. “Rune did a great job in the closing stages of the game and played well overall!” said head coach Lars Lagerbäck.
After losing 5-0 to England, Vladimir Darida suffered another poor evening. The Czech Republic took the lead against Brazil (Pavelka 37’) but ended up losing 3-1. Darida, who began the game as captain, was subbed off in the 56th minute after picking up an injury. The severity of the injury is still unknown.
