Berlin- The net bulged through Davie Selke, the 1000th Hertha home Bundesliga goal was scored and the first home win of 2018 was recorded on Saturday, meaning there was much to celebrate at full time against Cologne. The relief on the faces of those in Blue and White was obvious at full time.
Davie Selke: My first goal was a weight off my shoulders. I am a striker, and I want to score goals and help the team. I had no idea that my second was the 1000th at home for Hertha in the Bundesliga. That’s a nice bonus from what was a successful afternoon. We were able to give the fans their first home win of 2018, even if it’s come quite late. We started well again but just couldn’t get the early goal. Then we went behind because of a counter attack. We said at half time that we just wanted to keep doing what we were doing and we responded with two goals which were very important. What was also vital was that we didn’t then let them back into the game. I forgot to do my celebration, at the time I just had other things in my head. I just wanted to celebrate with Platts.
Marvin Plattenhardt: I’m pleased I was able tob e able to provide some assist and help the team. I have not been able to do that as well in recent weeks. We have been able to relieve a lot of frustration with this win. We played well in the first half, had chances to score but just couldn’t get the ball across the line. Now there are four games left, although we’re in a bit of a no-man’s land position in the table. We don’t need to look downwards anymore, but going upwards will be tough. We take things week by week, and are still looking to get points.
Niklas Stark: Cologne did not make it easy for us. But we had answers to their questions and we did not let ourselves get carried away after going 1-0 down. We came out of the traps well in the second half and we were able to turn the game around very quickly. It was an intense game for me personally, it’s always a bit of a tussle to defend against Jhon Cordoba. He collided with my nose in a tackle and I am actually a bit worried that it its broken.
Valentino Lazaro: It’s a huge relief that we were able to win in front of our fans at home again. We went into the game with the mindset that all these remaining games really mean something. We created early chances, but could not use them. We went behind because of an individual mistake from a long ball. We then had to make sure we kept a cool head, and the boss relayed that at half time. We came out after the break raring to go, took our chances and could even have extended our advantage. Everyone is delighted for Davie, especially as he got two. It was only a matter of time before he put that ball in the back of the net again.
