Enjoy a number of special moments together!

In his first interview as a Hertha player, Dodi Lukébakio discussed the reasons for his transfer, chatting to Karim Rekik, his role models and his goals.

Berlin – Dodi Lukébakio has become Hertha’s fourth summer signing. The Belgium U21s attacker completed his medical on Thursday (1/8/19), before signing a long-term contract at the ‘Old Lady’. He then spoke to about the reasons for his transfer, chatting to Karim Rekik, his role models and his goals. Welcome to Berlin, Dodi! We’re delighted that you’re now part of the Hertha family. Several clubs were interested in you over the summer – why did you decide to sign for Hertha BSC?
Lukébakio: Hertha is a big club in Germany and they showed a lot of interest in me, so I soon knew I wanted to come to Berlin. I want to achieve a lot of things with my new teammates. I’m really pleased to now be in Berlin and I’m excited for the next chapter of my career! You have become the second Belgium player in head coach Ante Čović’s squad, after Dedryck Boyata signed earlier this summer. Did you speak to him before you decided to come to Berlin?
Lukébakio: I actually don’t know him at all, however I did speak to Karim Rekik on a few occasions and he only said positive things about the club. Despite your young age, you have played for a fair few clubs so far in your career. After turning professional at Anderlecht in 2015, you went on to play for four other clubs – FC Toulouse, RSC Charleroi, Watford and lastly Fortuna Düsseldorf. Why do you think Hertha and Berlin is the right place for you to settle down?
Lukébakio: The main thing I need is stability and after chatting with people here I didn’t have to think twice about coming here. I’m certain that moving to Hertha is the right decision for me. For those who don’t know much about you: what are your strengths and weaknesses?
Lukébakio: I’ll start with my weaknesses (laughs). I need to work on my decision making on the pitch, score more goals and help my team more. My pace and dribbling are definitely some of my best attributes. I won’t say anything more than that – the fans can decide for themselves what my strengths and weaknesses are after a few games! Do you have any role models?
Lukébakio: I admire Eden Hazard a lot. He has already had an incredible career and is definitely a role model for me. He’s just one example of players that I like to watch. Nevertheless, I am a different kind of player to him. I always try to improve myself and give my best – and write history! What do you know about your new club? Are you excited to play with certain players?
Lukébakio: Karim! (laughs) Seriously though, I know that I can learn a lot from some of the experienced players here like the captain Vedad Ibišević, who has already done a lot for this club. What should we know about Dodi Lukébakio the person?
Lukébakio: That I’ve recently got married! As a result of that, I want to spend as time as possible with my wife off the pitch. My life has changed a lot recently, which had an impact on this transfer. I think this club has the stability that I need in my life.
