“Hopefully this will kick off our season!”

After the important home victory against Paderborn, ‘match-winner’ Javairo Dilrosun, Marius Wolf, Dedryck Boyata and Maximilian Mittelstädt all gave their thoughts on what was a hard-earned 2-1 win.

Joy and relief were the prevailing emotions as the Herthaner entered the mixed zone after winning their home game against SC Paderborn on Saturday (21/09/19). "I hope we get a lot of confidence from this win and that it really kicks off our season!" said Javairo Dilrosun, who got a goal and an assist as he was hailed the ‘match-winner’. "That was a difficult game, but the most important thing is that we got the three points!" We collected all the quotes from the game.

Javairo Dilrosun: Of course it was a great feeling for me to get the first goal. I hope that we take a lot of confidence from this win and that it really kicks off our season! It’s been a long time since I was in the starting XI so naturally I was incredibly motivated. Also, because of our recent results I was desperate to get back and help the team with some goals and assists. Thankfully it worked out that way for me today. For the goal I just tried to anticipate how the defenders would react to my movements and it paid off so I’m really happy with that. It was a difficult game and Paderborn played well – we shouldn’t have taken our eye off the ball at 2-0. The most important thing though, is that we got the three points.

Marius Wolf: Of course it feels great to have scored today, but my goal is far less important than the win. There’s still room for improvement, but it was just important to win such a game. We need to keep working, addressing what we can do even better, and then take it all in to next week. It was crucial to our confidence that we got the win today. It’s given us a real boost.

Dedryck Boyata: We worked hard; it was a difficult game mentally. Our main goal was to finally get the three points and we did that. It wasn’t an easy situation to be last place in the table. Now everyone’s buzzing and we are ready for the next victory.

Davie Selke: It's been a big burden for us all, you've seen that. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we had to win and force the victory - and we did. The win is enormously important to us, how it came about doesn’t matter at the moment. What are important are the points. We have good lads in this team, but you always go through phases in football and this isn’t our best one at the moment. We work hard for every little bit of luck we get. Jav has put on a world-class show so far this season, he’s been amazing in recent weeks and I’m chuffed for him.

Maximilian Mittelstädt: It wasn’t an easy game by any means. We got the win and it was another great performance from Jav. We played well and we overcame our opponents, even when we were under pressure and we should’ve settled the game earlier in truth. Ultimately, all that matters is that we were able to clinch the first three points of the season and the fact that we managed to do so in front of our fans makes it all the sweeter. This gives us new-found confidence - now we have to stay alert and grab as many points as possible before the international break!

Marko Grujic: That was a really important win. As the fans have already said, the season really starts for us now that we have the first win under our belts. It was a tough game in which we had a lot of chances and scored two offside goals in addition to our goals that actually counted - but defensively we're still looking for the right balance. This victory improves the mood and the atmosphere in the dressing room, now we can prepare for Cologne.
