Temperatures of 30 degrees at Schenckendorffplatz aren’t exactly perfect conditions for football. Nevertheless, a full Hertha training session took place out on the training pitch on Wednesday morning (28.08.19). “Obviously the intense heat is a factor, but the boys have pulled together and eagerly participated,” said Ante Covic after the morning session.
Marvin Plattenhardt and Javairo Dilrosun were two players who were especially enthusiastic, returning to team training after being out injured. While the left-back had injured his thigh right before the start of the competitive season, the forward suffered the same fate at the end of the training camp in Stegersbach. “Preseason went pretty well for me, so it was all the more frustrating that I missed the start of the campaign. I’m happy to be back in shape and I want to help the team as soon as possible,” said Plattenhardt. Dilrosun was also satisfied after the almost 90-minute training session. “I feel good and could train with the boys without any problems, which was a nice feeling!” he said. Another positive was that Arne Maier and Dedryck Boyata completed an individual session with strength and conditioning coach Hendrik Vieth.
Focus on the next task
Hertha will hope to retain this good feeling – ideally complemented by picking up three points – when they travel to Schalke 04 on Saturday (31.08.19, 15:30 CEST). The mission is clear ahead of the second game of the Bundesliga season: win and give Covic, who celebrates his 44th birthday on Saturday, the three points as a present. “We have analysed the weak points from the Wolfsburg game and are aiming to win at Schalke like we did last season,” says Plattenhardt.
