"Happy that we’re allowed to play”

In a press conference ahead of Saturday’s match against Hoffenheim (16.05.20, 15:30 CEST), head coach Bruno Labbadia and sporting director Michael Preetz spoke about the season getting back underway, sporting decisions to be made and the exceptional circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

Berlin - Press conferences in front of an empty room have become the new normal of late, as just one of many changes to everyday life brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Such was also the case for Hertha’s pre-match press conference on Thursday (14.05.20), which took place digitally. The journalists tuned in via a HerthaTV livestream, and submitted their questions to Hertha’s director of communications and media, Marcus ‘Max’ Jung, via a live chat. The questions centred mainly around the upcoming match against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday afternoon, and the conditions under which the match will take place. “We played a lot this week, with plenty of drills featuring 11 vs. 11 because we weren’t able to do so for nine weeks. The situation is a bit of an unknown, but we are well prepared and have made the best of what was available to us,” said Bruno Labbadia. The head coach also addressed what formation his side will line up in this weekend. “Everyone will be tasked with working hard both in and out of possession. In terms of our formation, it’s yet to be decided. We will have to see who fits in best,” said Labbadia, who will make his sideline debut for the Blue-Whites on Saturday.

When asked about the season getting back underway, Michael Preetz said, “We are all relieved and are happy to be getting back underway after nine long weeks. German football, together with the DFL leading the way, has done an exceptional job. Every club has the desire to see the season played out. We want it to be decided on sporting merit.”
