A frustrating evening for Hertha BSC: a 5-0 defeat in Leipzig and unfortunately fully deserved too. “We were not good enough as a team,” summed up Rune Jarstein after the final whistle. Some of the players took some time out to speak to the media after the game.
Rune Jarstein: We were not good enough as a team. It is painful to concede five goals. I don’t have an explanation for why it happened. We have to use the upcoming week well in order to improve our game and play better against Düsseldorf.
Marko Grujic: Maybe we will see what went wrong once we go over the game again. The result is of course very disappointing. We have lost our last three games and so we need to get the three points next Saturday against Düsseldorf.
Maximilian Mittelstädt: It is difficult to find words after a game like that. We were unable to implement our game plan and made many simple mistakes. We were unable to handle the pressure and lost too many second balls. We have to keep our heads up.
Niklas Stark: That was a terrible game from us. We’ve played well here before. This time we did not manage to defend well. We wanted to defend too high up and it did not work. We realized too late. In the second half, it felt like every shot just went in. We have to accept the result, analyse the game and move on to the next one.
Valentino Lazaro: We had a lot planned against this strong opponent. We came into the game well but then we stopped doing the basics and the will to work hard off the ball. We have to analyse what went wrong. With the quality that they have, they played well. I am very disappointed with our performance. We made mistakes in the centre of the pitch, which is not normal for us. There was a lot missing from us.
Karim Rekik: We played well at the start. But in the end, of course, the defeat hurts a lot. After going 3-0 down, our heads dropped and so we then conceded two more. We were not compact and Leipzig punished us. We had a good plan but did not implement it.
