The Old Lady has parted ways with Lazar Samardzic. Hertha have agreed a deal with RasenBallsport Leipzig for the transfer of the attacking midfielder. Details of the transfer will not be announced by either club. “Lazar recently decided that he wanted to follow a different path to the one that we have laid out for him here at Hertha BSC. He wanted to go elsewhere and we had to accept that. We wish him all the best,” said Michael Preetz on Tuesday (08.09.20).
The left-footed player joined Hertha in 2009 and has since played in every youth category in the club’s academy. The playmaker stood out, especially in the upper age groups; the Germany youth international scored 40 goals (14 assists) in 40 U17 Bundesliga matches, with another 14 goals (nine assists) in 16 matches for the U19s. Bruno Labbadia rewarded the youngster with senior game time towards the back end of last season, bringing Samardzic on as a substitute in three Bundesliga matches.
