“We were asleep in the first half”

Lukas Klünter, Niklas Stark and Marko Grujić spoke to herthabsc.de after the 2-1 defeat in Freiburg on Saturday.

The Schwarzwaldstadion has not been a good stadium to play in for Hertha BSC in recent times. Today, the Blue-Whites were beaten 2-1 by SC Freiburg. “Conceding a goal from a corner was very disappointing. It is very annoying that we lost this game,” said Niklas Stark after the game.

Lukas Klünter: We seemed surprised in the first half and were asleep. After the break, we changed to a back four and things were better. Unfortunately, we were unable to score a lot even though we had more possession. I don’t want to speak much about my own performance after a defeat. But I am always ready to be called upon when needed.

Niklas Stark: We weren’t good in the first half. What we set out to do, did not work out. We could not defend as high as we have been recently. Freiburg sat back but made it very difficult for us. In the second half we created more space and played better. We were behind for a long time but equalised well. The goal from their corner, a set-piece, was extremely annoying to concede from. It was very frustrating that we lost.

Marko Grujić: The build-up play to our goal was really good. It was the best play of the game. That was the positive. The negative side is that we lost. The goals we conceded were very annoying and it is difficult to explain why. That is football. We can take the positives with us from this game and improve for the next game.
