Messenger apps such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger have become an integral part of day-to-day life. Hertha BSC has showed its digital innovation to expand its use of AI to cater for the whole of Europe. Before the final home game of the 2018/19 season against Bayer Leverkusen, certain fans were able to order mobile tickets over Messenger, with the whole process, from first contact up to arrival in the stadium, being handled by AI.

The so-called “TicketBot” system was a joint project between the club and Berlin-based start-up spectrm, which presented the work at the annual Facebook conference ‘F8’, alongside e-commerce experts brandung. The club is planning further use of AI services over Messenger in order to facilitate the way fans can stay up to date with digital services and offer new possibilities. The new season kit launch (01/07/19) was also supported by a messenger campaign.
