Unlike in the past two years, when the ‘Old Lady’ completed their second training camp in Schladming, the Blue and Whites will this time head to Austria, where they will stay in Stegersbach in the Burgenland. Instead of mountain views, the area is famous for its castles and museums. As such Ante Čović’s men will not hear much about free time activities in the most eastern and least populous Austrian state, which is well known for its landscapes. “The guys know that they have to work hard and show the coaches that they deserve to be in the team,” said the head coach.
Top conditions and exciting tests
The team will reside in the Falkensteiner Balance Resort offered by ‘1892 Partner’ Falkensteiner. The family-run hotel company has officially been in partnership with the club since last summer and will continue to provide the best conditions for the team during their stay. Led by captain Vedad Ibišević, the players will train at the site of SV Stegersbach, who will play the upcoming season in the fifth-tier of Austrian football. During the camp, the capital club will face Turkish side Fenerbahçe on 25th July (17:30 CEST) at the Profertil Arena in Hertberg. The team from Istanbul feature a number of recognised Bundesliga players, such as Mehmet Ekici, Max Kruse and ex-Hertha man Tolga Ciğerci. At the end of the training camp, Hertha will meet West Ham United, who finished last season in 10th place in the English Premier League, on 31st July at 18:00 CEST at the Sonnenseestadion in Ritzing. “We purposely looked for two strong and recognised opponents, in order to test our work over the whole pre-season against a good standard,” said head coach Čović on the upcoming games.
