The excitement is understandable. Bruno Labbadia’s players went into the game against Hoffenheim not knowing what to expect having been out for so long, but a 3-0 victory proved they were more than up to the task. The challenge of playing without fans was evident. “Of course we had to deal with some difficult conditions out there today. Playing without fans was always ging to be unusual, but we didn’t let that get us down,” said Marvin Plattenhardt. “We just have to go out there and do our jobs, and we did that in Hoffenheim.” We collected all the post-match reaction.
Vedad Ibisevic: The break has definitely done me some good, I’ve been able to get myself properly fit under the new coach. The whole team worked really well for each other today and we deserved the win. I was really happy to get myself a goal and I’m just trying to enjoy every minute I’m out there. We’ve waited a long time to be able to get back out on the pitch and play, and to get that goal - you dream about moments like that as a strikers and so it was always going to be difficult for me to contain my emotions. I’m sorry I was thinking in that moment, but we’re emotional football players, not robots.
Marvin Plattenhardt: The whole team is really happy with the three points. Whether it’s been the youngsters or the elder statesmen here, we’ve all been putting everything into this comeback. Lots of the things that we’ve been working on in training, we implanted out on the pitch. f course we had to deal with some difficult conditions out there today. Playing without fans was always ging to be unusual, but we didn’t let that get us down. We’re just hoping we can continue this performance in the coming weeks.
Maximilian Mittelstädt: In the game today, you saw everything we’ve been working on in training. At the start it didn’t go exactly as planned. Despite that, I thought we defended really well, and we took our chances going forward in the second half. When you prepare as rigorously as we have for this game, you often reap the rewards. Hoffenheim are a good team and they can play some good football, we can’t stop everything; but we stayed compact today and held them out. We knew if we played like that in defence that we would always be difficult to deal with going forward and that we’d get out chances. I’m just glad we took them. Vedad has already thanked me for the assist, but it’s my job to put in crosses like that, and it’s his to put them away. Now we have to take this momentum into the coming games. It was a good result and an important three points. Next week it’s all about the derby - we want to do well because that’s such an important game for us and our fans.
