On 20th May 2019, just after the climax of the current Bundesliga season, Hertha BSC will travel to the United States for an end of season tour. The Blue-Whites will take on MLS side Minnesota United in Minneapolis on 22nd May. The friendly will take place at Allianz Field, which can hold 19,400 spectators, and the match will kick-off at 19:00 local time (02:00 CEST). Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota with approximately 400,000 inhabitants.
Tour reaches climax on West Coast
Hertha want to play a second friendly in the USA and opponents for a second friendly will be announced in due course. A venue for the second fixture is also yet to be decided. The tour will reach its conclusion on the West Coast in Los Angeles, a city which has been twinned with Berlin since 1967. The trip to the USA is the first step for Hertha BSC as they look to globalise.
“We are pleased that the team will take the first step in our globalisation plans this May. As a Berlin club, it was our desire to go to the United States, play against the elite teams in North American football and to promote the international development of Hertha BSC,” said Blue-Whites sporting director Michael Preetz regarding the plans. Hertha BSC executive board member Paul Keuter added: “The USA is more than just a country which loves sport. We want to get the American public behind the team.”
