“We’re our own worst enemy!”

Marvin Plattenhardt, Niklas Stark, Vladimir Darida and Maximilian Mittelstädt all gave their thoughts after the 2-2 draw with SV Werder Bremen.

2-2 after being 2-0 down - the Blue and Whites had to mount a comeback once again. It’s difficult to explain how such a result occurs straight after the final whistle. Niklas Stark had mixed feelings about the game: “When you go 2-0 down  at home, your mind doesn’t jump to 2-2, you have to be thinking about winning it 3-2, and we had chances to do that today,” said Hertha’s first goalscorer of the day. “Apart from the first 15 minutes, we were by far the better team today and it would’ve been a deserved win if we’d have got it.”

Marvin Plattenhardt: After going 2-0 down, to get a point here really speaks to the morale and character we have in the dressing room – but to goals two down in the first 7 minutes was a real slap in the face. We have to be better in the future. After we got the equaliser we wanted to go on and win the game and we did everything we could to get that third goal but we couldn’t manage it. In the end we can live with a point.

Niklas Stark: When you go 2-0 down at home, your mind doesn’t jump to 2-2, you have to be thinking about winning it 3-2, and we had chances to do that today. Apart from the first 15 minutes, we were by far the better team today and it would’ve been a deserved win if we’d have got it. It’s hard to explain how we conceded the goals today, but the first one was a great strike, although we definitely could’ve prevented the second one. We have to focus on being more solid in the first few minutes because we really haven’t been in the last few games, but that has nothing to do with our attitude. We have a great team here who have plenty of will to win but sometimes we try a little too hard and we go behind too often. To come back like we did again today though, speaks to us as a team. We’re our own worst enemy at times, but we showed good communication, willingness in the tackle and strength going forward, which is a good sign for the rest of the season.

Maximilian Mittelstädt: It’s difficult to put into words so soon after the final whistle. I can’t explain why we conceded those two goals so early in the game. They started off well though and put us under a lot of pressure in the opening exchanges. In future we can’t concede two goals so early like that, we have to produce that second half performance for the entirety of a game, not just part of it. We grew into the game after going behind though and we were aggressive in the tackle, good going forward – we had chances. In that respect we did play well, and if we’d have got the win in the second half, it wouldn’t have been totally undeserved. The penalty situation happened so quickly so it’s difficult to say anything about it now. But that surely would’ve won us the game.

Vladimir Darida: We conceded to quick goals and so it’s always difficult to come back from that. But we really came together and in the end I think we deserved to win. The penalty incident happened so fast and so I can’t say anything about it now without having seen it on the screen.
