"We want to prove that we can be better"

Marius Wolf speaks about the first impressions of the new coaching staff, possible paths back to winning ways and his reunion with Borussia Dortmund.

Berlin – The rain, which had poured down incessantly since the beginning of Jürgen Klinsmann’s first training session, has subsided, and Marius spoke to the media about the eventful first day under the new coach. For Hertha’s number 30 the upcoming game against Borussia Dortmund (30.11.19, 15:30 CET) is not only special because it marks the first time seeing Jürgen Klinsmann at the wheel at Hertha, but it also promises a reunion with his parent club. The winger, who was loaned out by Dortmund to Hertha at the beginning of the season, will meet many old acquaintances on the weekend. “I’m obviously looking forward to kicking some of the guys,” smirked Wolf, adding seriously: “We want to prove that we can play better than we did last time out.” In his exchange with the media, the attacking player spoke about…
…the first training session with new head coach Jürgen Klinsmann: You can see in that first training session there was that spark and some new ideas. Each trainer pursues his own doctrine with his team, sets his own priorities and creates specific exercises. Everyone worked hard, and the session was good and fun. Jürgen Klinsmann can help us with his wealth of experience, each of us can learn from him and it will pay off!
….the division of work in the coaching staff and the first impressions of working with assistant managers Alexander Nouri and Markus Feldhoff: It worked out well in the first session and it was also good for us as players. You can sense that Alexander Nouri and Markus Feldhoff as well as other members of the coaching staff have a clear plan and know exactly what they are doing – that gives us confidence.
…the farewell to Ante Covic: I thought it was important and good that we were given the opportunity to say goodbye to the coach with the rest of the team. That’s what Ante deserves, because he is such a towering figure. It’s a shame, and we all wish that things went better, but unfortunately at the end of the day football is a results game. We cannot look back now, but must continue to look ahead, and try to get something against Dortmund.
…the most important factors that need to be changed: It is important that we accept and implement directly what the coach tells us to do. All in all, we need a different mentality than the one we showed against Augsburg last time. To do that we need to get our heads down and concentrate on our football and then after the turbulent last couple of days we can rediscover the fun of the game and regain our fighting spirit.
…the reunion with Dortmund: Of course I want to get out there and kick the guys (he smirks) It will be good to see my old teammates, give everything and show the boys something! It’s a special game for me, no question, but the most important thing for me is to help my team. We will be facing a top opponent with huge quality, Dortmund have one of the best squads in Germany and it will be an incredibly difficult game for us. But we are in a good mood to take something off them. We want to prove to ourselves that we can do better!
