Hertha Berlin US Tour 2019: Berlin tears down walls

Bild: herthabsc

The objective of the #TearDownWallsTour is to represent Hertha Berlin as one of Germany's leading soccer clubs on an international level and simultaneously commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall 30 years ago in November. Hertha Berlin stands for progress and diversity and explicitly supports a tolerant and open-minded world. Those values, as well as a critical attitude in sociopolitical topics, bridges the gap to one of the most history-charged events in the last century.

The US, as a partner and ally in the reunification of Germany, shares this story. Unforgotten is the famous speech of former US president Ronald Reagan on June 12th 1987 in front of the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin, in which he ordered former president of the Soviet Union, Michail Gorbatschow, to “(…) tear down this wall!”. With the subsequent fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin became a city that overcame borders and barbed wires and reunited families that had been torn apart for almost 28 years. It became a symbol of freedom, integration and diversity. Hertha Berlin wants to reflect this system of values considering its city’s history and represent it on both a national and international level.
